Our founder, Jennifer Sanchez, had the privilege of virtually speaking to OTA students at San Jacinto College in Houston, TX earlier this week! Jennifer shared pieces of her journey: growing up in a small West Texas town, discovering OT, stepping into ASD practice with zero certainty but a heart full of purpose, and taking a leap of faith into travel therapy after spinning a globe and trusting where it landed. Nothing about her path has been linear — it’s been built on courage, curiosity, and choosing to keep going even when the next step wasn’t clear. What she hopes students walked away with is this: you don’t have to have everything figured out to make a difference. In this episode, we sit down with Koen van Boxel, M.Sc., who studied International Economics and Business, followed by a Master’s degree in Finance at Radboud University in the Netherlands. He then pursued a secondary Master’s in Environmental Economics at the Swedish Agricultural University in Uppsala, before starting his PhD in Finance and Insurance at Leibniz University in Hanover, Germany. We chat about how our decisions are often swayed by behavioral biases. He breaks down how these biases pop up in everyday life—whether it’s in our spending habits, health-related decisions, or how we handle finances. We also talk about how these same biases mess with investors in the stock market and how they affect things like saving for retirement among other decisions. Koen gives us a sneak peek into his latest research project and shares some great advice for anyone wanting to get into this field.
